Huawei Mate XTs vs Samsung TriFold: The Future of Tri-Fold Smartphones

The world of mobile technology is evolving faster than ever, and foldable smartphones have become one of the most fascinating developments of this decade. Among the many designs being explored, the tri-fold concept—phones that can fold into three sections—now stands out as the boldest step toward merging the portability of a phone with the functionality of a tablet. In this fast-moving landscape, two companies are at the center of attention: Huawei, which has already released its second tri-fold device, the Mate XTs; and Samsung, which is still preparing to reveal its first TriFold device.

Huawei’s Mate XTs has already made its way into the hands of consumers, establishing itself as a fully realized tri-fold smartphone. When completely unfolded, its 10.2-inch OLED LTPO display provides a tablet-like experience suitable for multitasking, studying, content creation, and entertainment. The device also supports the M-Pencil stylus, which makes note-taking, drawing, and productive work feel intuitive and fluid. Its camera system consists of a 50-megapixel main sensor paired with periscope telephoto and ultra-wide lenses, giving users strong photographic capabilities. With a 5,600 mAh battery and 66W fast charging, the phone delivers reliable endurance despite the larger screen size. Altogether, the Mate XTs stand not just as an experimental foldable, but as a practical productivity machine.

On the other side, Samsung’s TriFold remains one of the most anticipated devices in the foldable world. Samsung has already proven its leadership in the foldable market through its Z Fold and Z Flip series, so expectations for the TriFold are naturally high. Early leaks and prototype images suggest that Samsung is exploring a G-type inward-folding triple-hinge design, offering better protection for the inner screens. However, Samsung has not officially confirmed any specifications, camera details, battery information, or stylus support. At this stage, most details circulating about the TriFold remain speculative and unverified, making it important to approach rumors with caution.

The current reality is that Huawei has taken a strong lead in the tri-fold segment. With the Mate XTs already available and refined for everyday use, the company has successfully transformed tri-fold technology into a consumer-ready product. Its design, display quality, multitasking features, and stylus integration position it as a capable and versatile tool for both productivity and creativity.

Samsung’s upcoming TriFold, meanwhile, represents the future potential of the category. Considering Samsung’s established ecosystem, software optimization through One UI, and advanced hardware engineering, it is highly likely that Samsung will deliver a competitive tri-fold device once it launches. The only uncertainty is when the TriFold will become available and whether it will match or surpass Huawei’s achievements in real-world use.

Foldable smartphones are gradually redefining what a phone can be. A single device can transform from a compact handheld into a spacious digital workspace within seconds, and then fold back into a pocket-friendly form. Huawei has already made this transformation a reality, while Samsung appears ready to push it even further in the near future. As the foldable journey continues, 2025 is shaping up to be a milestone year, marking both the maturation of tri-fold technology and the beginning of a new chapter in mobile innovation.
