What’s on My iOS 19 Wishlist?
Apple’s iOS has come a long way over the years, evolving from a simple mobile OS to a highly refined platform powering some of the most advanced smartphones in the world. With iOS 18 introducing significant UI and AI enhancements, many of us are already looking ahead to what iOS 19 might bring.
As someone who lives and breathes tech, here’s what’s on my iOS 19 wishlist — a mix of realistic expectations and a few dream features we’d love to see.
1. True Home Screen Freedom
It’s time. We’ve been asking for this for years:
- Let us place icons anywhere on the Home Screen — not just the top-left grid.
- Support full custom icon packs without using Shortcuts or experiencing that frustrating delay when launching apps.
A more dynamic, personalized Home Screen would bring iOS closer to the flexibility Android users enjoy.
2. Smarter Notification Controls
Notifications on iOS still feel a bit... rigid.
- Give us better grouping options (by app, priority, or context).
- Add a snooze feature — like “Remind me in 10 minutes” — to handle alerts later without dismissing them completely.
More intelligent notifications would reduce noise and boost productivity.
3. Offline & Contextual Siri
With AI becoming more powerful (thanks to models like ChatGPT), Siri is overdue for an upgrade:
- Work offline for basic commands.
- Offer contextual memory — like remembering ongoing tasks or preferences.
- Handle more complex voice commands with natural responses.
Imagine saying “Siri, schedule lunch with Maya like last time,” and it just gets it.
4. Split-Screen Multitasking on iPhones
Large-screen iPhones (especially the Pro Max series) could really benefit from split-screen multitasking — like iPadOS.
- Open Safari + Notes together.
- Watch YouTube while texting.
- Drag and drop between apps.
Even limited multitasking would be a game-changer for power users.
5. Interactive & Functional Widgets
iOS 17 brought interactive widgets, but they’re still limited:
- Let us do more — send messages, like tweets, or play full music controls directly from the Home Screen.
- Add widget automation options based on time, location, or focus modes.
We want widgets that do more than just display info.
6. Native App Lock with Face ID
Security should be convenient.
- Allow users to lock individual apps (like Photos, Notes, or Messages) using Face ID, without relying on third-party workarounds.
- Even better if we can schedule or automate it via Focus Modes.
7. Advanced Battery Health Tools
Apple’s battery health tool is simple — too simple.
- Add more details: charge cycles, performance stats, and app-level consumption history.
- Introduce a smart “Battery Saver AI” mode that predicts when to preserve juice.
8. Always-On Display Customization
The AOD is sleek, but let us take control:
- Choose what info is displayed (calendar, weather, tasks).
- Customize the clock style or even use grayscale wallpapers to keep things personal.
9. Built-in AI Superpowers
iOS 19 could go all-in on AI:
- Auto-summarize articles or emails.
- Smart replies in iMessage or Mail.
- Voice note transcription, smart reminders, and even calendar insights.
We’re in the AI era — let’s make our phones truly smart.
10. Improved Default App Options
Apple has taken steps in letting users change default browser and email apps. Let’s go further:
- Set default apps for camera, photos, calculator, maps, and even voice assistants.
- A fully modular iOS would empower users to make their devices truly their own.
Final Thoughts
iOS 18 was a solid step forward, but iOS 19 has the potential to be revolutionary. With the growing influence of AI and user demand for customization, Apple has a unique opportunity to reshape how we interact with our iPhones.
